Antenna Company provides a new innovative ‘geometry based’ antenna technology. This new way of shaping and building antennas has enormous potential for a wide range of wireless applications.
In terms of numbers, the wireless connectivity market is growing very dramatically. We see about 40% year over year growth, whereas the total antenna market, for the segments that we are addressing, is expected to reach 1Bn units by 2020.
Antenna Company is currently looking at four specific market segments for the product strategy:
- Wi-Fi networking, both enterprise and consumer,
- Connected home,
- Telematics, for the automotive and the internet of things (IOT) market segments, and
- Mobile computing.
Addressing the key challenges of wireless connectivity
Antenna Company’s products are addressing some of the key trends and issues that we see in the industry for each of the markets that we are targeting. These trends fall into three categories:
I. Performance for wireless applications
Performance for wireless applications is continuing to increase with higher data rates (i.e. higher user throughput) and greater network capacity required. The way that is achieved is by moving to wireless systems requiring multiple antennas and multiple radios.
II. Miniaturization of devices
We also see a miniaturization of devices and smaller and smaller form factors. That presents a challenge for our customers when they need to integrate more antennas into a smaller space, while maintaining or improving performance.
III. Maintaining connectivity
We see an important trend where the number of connected devices at any one point in time is continuing to grow. For the different use cases by the consumer, always on connectivity is a requirement. So, maintaining connection regardless of location or distance from the access point in the case of Wi-Fi is another critical need.
Antenna Company is, with its technology, addressing these three main trends in the industry.
A unique value proposition
If one looks at the technology that has been used for embedded antennas over the last 5-10 years, we find that the technology has not really changed dramatically to meet the new requirements and some of the upcoming challenges. The way that we solve that problem is by a combination of three areas of innovation in IP:
I. The use of novel materials technology
In many cases, we are using engineered polymer materials that allow the performance of our antennas to be improved over the existing technology that is available in the market today.
II. SuperShape® antenna systems
We are using geometrical engineering of our antenna systems in both 2D and 3D space to tailor, or customize, the antenna performance and give the most optimal characteristics for this specific application that we are trying to address.
III. Combining know-how and technology
We combine our RF systems expertise and know-how, together with the advanced materials technology and the SuperShape® approach to create an overall system level solution that gives the best performance for the specific application.
A profitable investment opportunity
Our technology allows us to break the mold of being focused on certain niche applications and apply our technology across multiple market segments. Our growth strategy is to build multiple business pillars for the company over the next 3-5 years in high performance, high volume applications. Those specific areas are
- Wi-Fi networking, which we spoke about earlier,
- Automotive and telematics, which is a growing field, and
- Fixed wireless and 5G networking.
We believe that our technology is well positioned in each one of those segments and will allow us to grow much faster than the industry and much faster than our competition.
